Gaming News / Events

Well, who would have thought 2020 would have been infectious in the most tragic way possible?!?!, I certainly didn’t, you probably didn’t either – unless you were one of the psychic authors who predicted this in books 10 years ago, or Bill Gates !

Anyway….first of all, I hope everyone is doing well and massive apologies for the lack of updates on the site. I’ve been super busy working and renovating the cinema room in the house – pics coming soon. I’ve also been learning Unity (for app / game development) and also trying out a little mini project with a spare raspberry Pi and a CRT monitor – more on that in the next couple of weeks.

Alongside all this ive been trying to get into a schedule with all all this ”Stay at home” stuff we are doing. In fairness, I’ve been lucky that my job allows me to work from home for 90% of it, so no issues there. Ive also been able to get through some games I’ve had queuing up so its a bonus.

Which brings me nicely onto APRIL AS A GAMER – I mean seriously….what. the. hell !!! Gamers have been spoiled rotten: Doom Eternal, Animal Crossing on the Switch, Resident Evil 3 remake today,  Final Fantasy VII: Remake in a week, and Trials of Mana at the end of April. An immense time to be stuck at home if your a gamer in all seriousness !.

I passed on Doom but will pick it up once I’ve finished the 2016 version, and I’m waiting for Resident Evil 3 to drop sub £30. Animal Crossing, I’ve not played since the GameCube and was going to pass, but I couldn’t resist the ridiculously priced, digital only, pricing error from GAME at £31.99 so I just had to pick it up.

And last but not least, I can feel some hate coming….

That’s right, I was one of the many lucky ones to get my hands on my copy of FFVII remake, which I only pre-ordered on the 30th March btw ! I’m on Chapter 3 right now and its absolutely superb visually and gameplay wise. No spoilers, and all I can say is, everyone who plays this is going to be blown away. Like tape over your scalp with some strong tape as your mind is going to explode. I’m still in awe at the visuals, they are absolutely stunning in every-way possible.

I’ve also got Trials of Mana pre-ordered for the Switch and the PS4 (because?….why not?). Thats about it for now, I’ll be posting in the next few days, come follow me on my social media channels, I’m active on Twitter and on Instagram and will be doing more streams on Twitch too, which ill be announcing via Twitter, so don’t be shy and come chill out with me. Remember…

Stay safe and stay at home !

Lets be honest, the last release of the Commodore 64 (named the Commodore 64 mini) wasn’t all that was it ? The keyboard was only for show, so you couldn’t use it at all and yeah, it just didn’t get the love it deserved.

All you Commodore 64 and nostaglia-heads rejoice as this December, the Commodore 64 is getting the love it deserves, with a brand new, albeit slightly more expensive, but totally worth it in every-way imaginable, iteration – just in time for Christmas !

This version is not only full size, but also has a fully functioning keyboard (yes – you read that right !). The system will come with HDMI out to connect to any HDMI monitor or TV and will display in 720p. The C64 will come with three modes; C64, vic 20 and games carousel and also has built-in USB ports to save/load and sideload your own games. Check out the x64 in built games list below:

The unit will also have full C64 and vic 20 BASIC built in allowing you to program your own games or do a little bit of coding in BASIC. A new joystick is also bundled in the package, with brand new switches so lets see how it compares to the joystick we saw in the mini version.

The Commodore 64 is being released on the 5th of December this year just in time for Christmas and I reckon it makes for an ideal Christmas present for any retro gaming fan.

You can now download the Resident Evil 5 & 6 Demo’s from the Nintendo eShop and pre-order both games right now.

Lock and Load: Chris Redfield and his partner Sheva Alomar Credit: Capcom

These games have been out for almost every platform I can think of now. I had Resident Evil 5 on the PS3, Xbox 360, PS4 and PC. I also had Resident Evil 6 on PS3, Xbox 360 and bagged it on PC years ago for about £2.30 or something stupid.

These games on the Switch aren’t cheap though, £29.99 each ! but if you want them, I’d definitely recommend Resident Evil 5 as the couch co-op is great fun. It’s gameplay is very similar to Resident Evil 4 but you get the fun of playing it co-op with you and a buddy. Both games are going to be released in full on the 29th of October. If your buying the physical triple pack of these games, you’ll get Resident Evil 4 on physical cartridge and the other two (Resi 5 & 6) will be digital downloads set to be 18.7GB & 17.6GB respectively, so keep that in mind.

Go check them out !

I’m sure almost every gamer on the planet is aware of this by now, but yes, the PS5 has been officially announced for Holiday 2020 – around the same time as the new Xbox console.

Early details of the PS5 confirm it’ll be able to play games at 4K resolution with 60fps, it also houses a solid state hard drive (about time!) for faster loading speeds and will also come with a brand new controller with haptic feedback, providing a more immersive gaming experience for all of us. The PS5 will also take physical media, so its not a digital only console (Phew!) and it will also be backwards compatible with PS4 games too which is a big plus !

Stay tuned for more juicy PS5 details as and when we hear more.

E3 2019 is a wrap so let’s take a look of some of the awesome games we’ll be seeing real soon…

Microsoft had a decent enough E3 this year in fairness. I’m not quite sure I’m ready for next gen consoles right now, I am, but at the same time I still think this gen has still so much more to offer, especially after this years E3. Where does the time go. Anyway, Microsoft announced the next gen Xbox console, project scarlett capable of 8K gaming and playing some games at 120 fps. Let’s touch on some of Microsoft’s biggest E3 announcements.

Cyberpunk 2077: Release Date – April 2020

Cyberpunk will eventually be available on PC, PS4 and XBOX but Microsoft really showed how awesome this game is going to be. NVIDIA is onboard with RTX for the game, so all you RTX GFX card owners will certainly be in for a treat.

The biggest surprise here was when Keanu Reeves rocked up onto the stage and we were all told Keanu, Mr John Wick himself, will be a character in the game called Johnny Silverhand. Cyberpunk 2077 is available to pre-order now and is set for release in April 2020.

Blair Witch Project

If you know me, you know I’m a horror game and horror movie junkie, I absolutely love scary stuff – especially games. PT on the PS4 (that was eventually pulled from the PS store), RESIDENT EVIL VR, Silent Hill, Outlast are some of my favourite horror games – so it’s no surprise saying I’m really looking forward to playing this new first person horror game, Blair Witch Project. Check out some of the development gameplay footage below:

Phantasy Star Online 2 – finally coming to the West and FTP !

This was massive for me…

E3 Round-up 2017

A look at all the biggest news and reveals from E3 2017.

Day 1 | June 10th | EA – Electronic Arts

There were 8 big reveals from EA’s E3 press conference, lets check them out below…

Battlefield 1

Night maps were announced along with a brand new DLC expansion pack are coming soon to Battlefield 1.  A revolution is coming – The In the name of the Tsar expansion pack, will allow us to play as a brand new faction, The Russian Army, including the Womans battalion of death. We will also get x8 brand new multiplayer maps (including snow terrain), new vehicles, weapons plus a whole lot more.

Get your vodka filled war flasks at the ready troops and expect massive nocturnal winter battles from World War I this September. The x2 night maps will also be released later this month in June, so stay tuned for them.

Fifa 18

Release: September 29th 2017 (PS4, Switch, Xbox1, PC)

I personally stopped playing Fifa after Fifa 15, however Fifa 18 is looking absolutely stunning with it’s brand new stadium atmospheres, ultra player realism and new gameplay mechanics.

EA is introducing a brand new animation engine, Real player motion technology which will deliver fluid player motions and ultra realistic player movements. In addition to the new animation engine, the dribbling and shooting mechanics are being overhauled – creating a much more realistic football experience.

New positioning system, allowing you to strategise and select different support levels at the press of a button.

Improved through balls, corners and set pieces capturing all the high intensity of the action on the pitch. We were informed that the crowds of fans will also react in different ways, if you score a goal, fans will run down two rows of seats in all new crowd physics. Not only that but you can also run up to fans in the stadium and celebrate with them near the pitch when you net a scortcher. All this creating the most realistic football experience to date.

THE JOURNEY: SEASON 2 (Hunter Returns)

The Journey, which debut’d in Fifa 17 when they introduced DICE’s frostbite engine to the Fifa franchise, follows the story and career path of an upcoming amateur football player (Alex Hunter) hoping to make his dreams of playing for a big football club a reality. The Journey Season 2 sees a continuation of Alex Hunters career path and its looking very special indeed.

Fifa 18 – Nintendo Switch

We were lucky enough to hear some details on the Nintendo Switch version of Fifa 18 and to be honest, I wasn’t dissapointed. EA really managed to surprise me with this one, as I thought the Switch version may have been a watered down version of the console and PC version, but thats simply not the case. Ok, so the Switch version won’t include the ”The Journey” mode, or the frostbite engine but don’t let that throw you off.

The Switch version will include: Fifa Ultimate Team, Icons mode, online play, exhibition and from what it sounds like, a co-op seasons mode (which is playable across 2 Switch consoles). It will also run at 1080p in docked mode, and 720p in handheld mode and you’ll be able to play this with the Pro controller and the two joy-cons (P1 and P2 if your playing in tabletop mode)

You can pre-order the Nintendo Switch version (including other platforms) via Amazon UK right here

Need for Speed: Payback

Release Date: November 10th 2017

You can pre-order / buy  Need for Speed Payback from Amazon UK using the links below:

Need for Speed Payback (PS4) – Physical copy
Need for Speed Payback (Xbox One) – Physical Copy
Need for Speed Payback (Xbox One  + Origin code)

I’ve not played a need for speed game since Need for Speed Underground 2 on the PS2, infact thats a lie, I played NFS: Carbon and NFS: shift but none of these satisfied me as much as NFSU2 did. That being said, seeing Need for Speed: Payback for the first time…it kinda reminds me of the Fast & Furious franchise, and thats not a bad thing at all, as we all love Fast & Furious. Need for Speed: Payback is bringing a brand new narrative to the table where your crew is out on a revenge mission to take down a notorious cartel. The game will introduce brand new experiences including; highway heists, epic car battles and jaw dropping explosive action.

You’ll get to play as 3 different characters, each with their own different play-styles. A tonne more customisation options ensures you’ll be able to modify your car to however you please. And not only that, theres also a new ”relic” car feature in the game, where you ll be able to find old rusty cars hidden around the map and transform them from scrap, to stock to the ultimate supercar.

From what I saw in the highway heist video below, the Burnout style takedowns, car damage and action looks absolutely superb, check it out:

A Way Out – This game was the winner of EA’s conference for me.

Release Date: Early 2018

Pre-order / buy  A way out from Amazon UK right here

A way out is an emotional, story-driven, 2-player online (or couch) co-op game that follows 2 inmates, Vincent and Leo, as they embark on a journey full of deceit, violence and brotherhood in an attempt to break out of Prison and keep their hopes of freedom alive. Distracting guards whilst your friend goes into an off-bound part of the prison to steal a key, or deliberately starting a fight so the guards get distracted so you two can proceed with your escape plan is what is going to make this game an absolute joy to play.

The game will also have instances were player 1 (who lets say is playing vincent) will have a cutscene showing on their screen, but at the same time player 2 will be in-game trying to complete some objective or what have you. I thought this was a nice touch and something I hadn’t seen in a game before.

Check out the gameplay trailer below, it looks like its going to be a lot of fun:

Bioware – ANTHEM

Pre-Order / buy ANTHEM from Amazon UK here

Bioware’s game, ANTHEM, which was teased to be released sometime is 2018, looks like a mix of Destiny, Horizon Zero Dawn with Ironman type suits thrown into the mix. We only saw a short 30 second teaser of it, but plenty more details of this new IP will be shown at the Microsoft E3 stream which is on at 10pm UK time tonight, so don’t miss it.

I’ve only ever played the NBA JAM games but the creators of NBA 18 have stated they’ve completely overhauled gameplay, with brand new left-and-right-stick movement controls for pure precision across the court.

Theres going to be a FREE demo released in August that will include solo, co-op and multiplayer modes, with your progress in multiplayer carrying over to the full game when its finally released.

The also teased “THE ONE” game mode which sees you starting off as an amateur street basketball player riseing through the ranks to become top of your game, all with different choices to make that will lead you down different career paths as you progress.

EA Play to Give

EA announced they donated $1M to x3 charitys in a bid to get everyone to come together, play games and ultimately fight poverty. They also announced that Origin access (PC) + EA access (Xbox 1) free for one week starting now. Theres also free EA games to try out on PS4 via the PSN store.

Star Wars Battlefront 2

Release Date – November 2017

Pre-Order / buy  Star Wars Battlefront II from Amazon UK right here

EA claimed they addressed all the fan feedback and added in new features, such as a single player story mode – something fans (including myself) really wanted to see in the first game. Alas, Battlefront 2 will have its stand alone single player experience for us all to enjoy !

Second thing to mention  = NO SEASON PASS ! Thats right, EA will be releasing all additional content FREE OF CHARGE. EA will also be giving away Finn and phasma characters as free content on day 1.

Story mode: A brand new and authentic, untold story that bridges the gap between the Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. Not only is there a story mode, but the games is much bigger than the previous game – housing x3 the amount of content than the first, covering all 3 eras. Also included is couch co-op (yes couch co-op split screen), more planets, vehicles and heroes to use in multiplayer mode, alongside a deeper customisation and character progression system.

New to multiplayer you have a new class system, different weapons and customisable special abilities. The gunplay and weapons have totally been re-done for more fluid and satisfying gun battles.

Battlepoints will also feature in Battlefront 2- this in game currency system (not to be confused with in-app purchases) will allow you to unlock new heroes, weapons and vehicles in game.

We were also treated to the World Premiere of Star Wars Battlefront II Multiplayer Gameplay video, check it out below:

Star Wars battlefront 2 will release this November on PC, Xbox 1 and PS4.

Madden 18 – Long Shot

EA announced we will see the first ever story mode coming to the Madden Franchise. It’s been 4 years in the making and is an interactive movie football story, based on a rags to riches story that you can play through.

This new story mode will really make you feel your in the NFL world, with real authentic NFL experiences throughout.

I’ve never actually bought a madden game, but I may just take a dive (no pun intended) with this one when its released.

Day 3 | June 12th | Bethesda, PC Gaming Show and Ubisoft

Ok, so no Elder Scroll announcements (apart from the Switch version of Skyrim – which has amiibo support for a link costume in game), and also no Starfield announcement either (oh well). The main reveals from Bethesda at E3 this year were, “Evil within 2″, “Wolfenstein 2”, “Fallout VR” and “Doom VR”.

Evil Within 2

Release Date: Friday the 13th of October 2017

Pre-order Evil within 2 from Amazon UK right here

Bethesda revealed a sequel to the epic survival  horror game Evil within, created by Resdient Evil’s Shinki Mikami, which is due for release on Friday the 13th of October 2017. Can’t think of a more appropriate release date if I’m honest. The story in Evil within 2 follows the same protagonist from the first, Sebastian Castellanos, who finds himself back in a demonic, nightmarish world searching for his lost daughter.

Lets not forget the absolutely insane gameplay  trailer for the game either, check it out:

Wolfenstein 2

Release Date: October 2017

Similarly to the first instalment of the game, the game is set in an alternate reality where the Mazi’s claimed victory in World War II. “Equip an arsenal of badass guns, and unleash new abilities to blast your way through legions of advanced Nazi soldiers, cyborgs, and über soldiers in this definitive first-person shooter,” Bethesda said in an official announcement.

Fans of the series (who live in the US), will also have a chance to pre-order a special edition that will include a 60/70’s esc action figure of Terror-Billy.

Fallout 4 VR and DOOM VFR (Virtual Fucking Reality perhaps?)

Release Date: October 2017

With very little VR releases (so far) hitting the E3 stage, Bethesda finally put that to rest by revealing DOOM VFR and more Fallout 4 VR.

Both games are set to release exclusively (I think- only because Bethesda owner, Zenimax won a $500M lawcase against Oculus ealirier this year) for the HTC Vive on PC and it also releases on the  PS4 VR headset in October 2017, so watch this space.

Ubisoft kicked off their conference with a bang with Shigeru Miyamoto coming out onto the Ubisoft stage to announce the collaboration between the Rabbids world and Super Mario.

Day 4 | June 13th | Sony and Nintendo

Without sounding like Mr. Negative here, I can’t help but feel a tad underwhelmed by Sony’s conference. Here some of the highlights from the show though,

Monster Hunter Worlds

Release Date: Early 2018

Pre-Order / buy Monster Hunter Worlds from Amazon UK here

Whilst this title was revealed during the Sony conference, the games also releasing at the same time on Xbox One and PC platforms.

Gran Turismo Sport

Release Date: September 6th

Pre-Order / buy Gran Turismo Sport from Amazon UK here

Before the Sony conference began, Thrustmaster revealed their brand new eSport wheel, the T-GT. The T-GT is what Thrustmaster said is their most luxurious steering wheel to date. Made from luxurious leather material and designed to be 100% accurate – with its T-40VE brushless motor that offers fast-response and precise feedback. Not only that, but theres also T-DFB (depth feedback) – allowing greater under/oversteer feedback and tyre slippage feedback too.

The wheel isn’t cheap though, Thrustmaster stated it will cost £699.99 in the UK ! Must admit though, it does look sexy…

So onto Gran Turismo, I’ve been a fan of the series since it was first released on the PS1. I spent countless hours with my university flatmates playing GT3 and GT4, I missed 5 (as I didn’t have a PS3), then I bought and played through 6 to death along with my Dad trying to get gold medals in every race, so I will be picking up GT: Sport whens its finally released later this year. I’ll finally use  my Thrustmaster T150 steering wheel i got in a pricing error deal (for £40), thats been lying on my top shelf (still sealed) collecting dust for the past 8-9 months.

So Gran Turismo Sport, I’m liking the fact they’ve included VR support for it and I’ll definitely be plying it with my Dad and my mates when they come over.

Check out the story mode trailer below:

God of War

Not a lot I need to say about God of War, its God of War. Greek god mythology, huge combos, explosive action and huge scale boss battles – its going to be a very good game indeed.

Full scale Pokemon RPG

Super Mario Odyssey

Release Date: October 27th 2017

Pre-order Super Mario Odyssey from Amazon UK here

Nintendo showed us their upcoming Nintendo Switch Mario game, Super Mario Odyssey, which will be released officially on the 27th of October this year ! I’ve already pre-ordered this when it went up on Amazon months ago, so its a day 1 purchase for me. The gameplay trailer we say showed off Mario’s new ability (his magic hat) and all the things it can do. It appears you’ll be able to use Mario’s hat to throw at enemies and take over the enemies body and take over vehicles and humans too.

Metroid Prime 4

I’m still to play through the Wii U version of Xenoblade (played 40 hours of the 3DS version), but we finally got a glimpse of some in game footage.
