Do you own an old Sony PSP with CFW (custom firmware)?, are you looking to play some Gameboy colour / Sega Master system / GameGear roms on it but don’t know where to begin? In this article I’m gonna show you how to install the best Gameboy colour and master system emulator onto your PSP, all in the matter of 10-15 minutes or so.
What do you need?
1). Sony PSP system running any custom firmware. (note: your PSP needs to be running custom firmware for this to work, if you don’t have cfw then I’d highly recommend using google to find out how to get cfw running on your device before attempting this, as it won’t work otherwise).
2). a USB cable to connect your PSP to your laptop / PC.
3). Access to the internet to download the ”Masterboy v2.10” emulator file and the ROM files (games).
How do you do it ?
Follow the steps below and you’ll have the emulator up and running on your PSP in no-time.
1). Download the Masterboy v2.10 emulator (a simple search on Google will return multiple sites where you can download it for FREE. n.b – it doesn’t matter which site you download from just make sure its v2.10). If your lazy click this link, as I’ve Google’d it for you: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=masterboy+v2.10
2). Make sure you have either ”WinRAR” or ”7zip” (the extraction programs) installed on your PC and extract the downloaded Masterboy v2.10 zip folder to the desktop.
3). At this stage you can now go and download multiple ROMs that you wish to play on the emulator (again Google search is your friend here). When the ROMs have downloaded, extract the ROMs to your desktop too.
4). Once you’ve downloaded all the ROMs you want, open the Masterboy v2.10 folder on your desktop (See image below), then drag and drop your ROMs into the corresponding folders. Gameboy / Gameboy colour ROMs go into the ”Roms GBC” folder (highlighted in red) and the Sega Master System / Game Gear ROMs go into the ”Roms SMS” (highlighted in blue) folder.
5). Once you’ve put all your ROMs into their correct folder, connect your PSP to your PC / laptop via USB cable and select ”usb connection” from the PSP settings menu, your PSP will then appear on your PC / laptop as a removable drive.
6). Next we are going to put the Masterboy v2.10 folder onto the PSP (install it to the PSP essentially). To do this, find your PSP on your PC, it should say something like (F:)Removable drive.
Now click the Removable drive –> PSP –> GAME
7). Drag your ”Masterboy v2.10” folder from the desktop and put it in the ”GAME” folder outlined above.
8). Once it’s copied, come out of USB mode on the PSP (usually by pressing ”O”) and thats it done. You can scroll to the game menu on the PSP and you should see the Masterboy emulator there.
