I never owned a Sega Saturn personally, but I do know a few people who do. Some of them own Saturns with faulty CD drives and the thought of being able to use the console again seems to get further and further away from reality with each passing day. Until now that is.
Dr. Abrasive has finally cracked the Sega Saturn’s copy protection – 20 years after its release ! Why is this good ? Well…if like a couple of my mates, your Saturn has a faulty CD drive, you can now (or will be able to) use a flash cartridge on your system that will allow you to rip all your saturn games to your PC and then load them onto a USB stick / SD card.
Ok, ok, so its not like ”playing the original CDs on original hardware” but I think you will agree that this is something pretty sweet indeed, especially if your Saturns CD drive is broken.
Dubuglive over on YouTube uploaded this video that gives you an insight into Dr Abrasive’s lab and also what it took for him to engineer this Saturn flashcard – highly recommend checking it out – very interesting stuff…
